Sabrina Antoinette

April 19, 2010

Over the last few months, I, along with Mike Morton (co-producing), have been blessed to work with Sabrina Antoinette. What began as a journey for her sound and songs has turned into an adventure that not only involves music but life…….. You remember something about yourself as a musician and why you are in love with music in the first place, when a voice alone can bring you to tears. That truly is magic….. There is not a pro tools rig, plugin, pre amp, microphone, compressor or any amount of autotune that can do that. The technology we have at our fingertips is awesome and I fully embrace it, however I cherish above all else the moment of hearing a song come to life in it’s most raw form and feeling that emotional experience with that person… ” That moment” is why I have always been in love with music. I feel blessed to have been in the room and experience that with Sabrina Antoinette and Mike Morton.. I have a feeling we are going to have a few more “moments” in this journey.

The Reverand Butter/Downfall 2012 show that I was the live sound engineer for aired this past Sunday night on TLC. It was great to see Rev Butter get that level of exposure on a national level. Great job guys. My original post on this was in late August. Check out these bands. It was a great show.

I am loving this cooler weather in Houston. There is just nothing inspiring about 110 degree heat. I have been busy over the last few weeks and as always I am very thankful for that.

David Upp, Brian Baker and I wrapped up an alternate mix of ” Summer Storm” last week. It is off to be mastered, I will post it when it arrives. It sounds amazing.

I am GEEEKED out of my mind over the Downfall 2012 I am working on. How 3 people can sound so massive is unbelieveable to me. We are spending alot of time on the bands Apple Logic rig in this stage of pre production. The focus right now is arrangements. Looks like we will have 16-20 songs to choose from for the new record. Those of you that are long time fans of DF2012 will be verrry surprised on many different levels of what you are going to hear on this new record. Shear ferocity being one of them. Its gonna peel your face back. I promise…..

We should begin mixing the first three Rainchild songs in late November. We are currently working on a song titled “Again”. I do not know how to describe it to you other than to say it sounds like you are in the room with the band. It sounds that real. It is amazing. I can’t wait for you to hear it.

Fallen Grey and I continue vocal pre production on the song titled “Trapped”. We have been spending time working on lyrics and vocal melodies. It really sounds awesome.

Stay tuned. Jim.

What a great day. I had a blast with Houston TX based rapper “Chedda”. We cut vocals on two songs and will begin mixing “Git yo swag on” early next week. This song is embedded so deeply in my head right now it may never go away. You gotta hear this one. Super great guys. Stay tuned.

We had a great evening of bass tracking. Jeremy did a great job on “Resolution” and “Samantha”. We should be moving on to vocal pre-prod later this week. “Hey Tobin, the tape sounds like someone has there finger on it”. Sorry, inside joke. Ha. Stay tuned.

Pre-prod begins with Downfall 2012. We are 3 songs in on a list of 20.The guys are leaving Tuesday for a two week tour to Cali. Stay tuned, this is going to be insane.

Channeling my inner weird today while mixing. It’s almost like a trance type state. What a blessing to make the frequencies dance
